Happy Birthday, Caleb!

I am the father to two biological children: One grown son with three children of his own, and one daughter who has been in heaven for over twenty years. However, my two youngest sons are both adopted. I wrote about Reed, my fifteen year old, back in February, and today my subject is my youngest son, Caleb.

I will always be grateful to that young woman who chose not to terminate the life of her unborn child, but instead, chose to give him up for adoption. I know that it was not an easy decision, but she, even at her young age, had an understanding about how precious life is. Caleb was, even in her womb, a child with fingers and toes, a brain and heart, and with the DNA that had already determined in so many ways (of course, all under the control of the Sovereign God), the numerous physical traits that would be a part of him for his entire life on earth, and, even in one sense, in the new heavens and earth (although it will be transformed into an immortal body at the resurrection).

I am grateful that in God’s mercy and grace, we have been able to enjoy knowing, teaching, loving, and caring for this young man, as he makes his sojourn on this earth, and on into eternity through what Christ has done on our behalf.

Caleb, may the Lord continue to grow you in His grace as you live your life as a member of a “chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
